What can you buy with £3 ($4) in the UK? In the UK that amount may not take you far, in Sri Lanka however, £3 is the daily wage for someone picking tea at the hundreds of tea plantations across the country. Tea pickers are expected to pick between 18-22 kilos of tea per 8-hour day with no days off for fear of being dropped a pay grade of £1.50 a day. For the amount we spend on a morning cuppa, a tea picker is expected to survive and provide for his or her family.

So to raise awareness of this plight and the grueling working conditions the Tea Pickers are subjected to everyday, this week Natasha and I will be spending a day in the life of a Tea Picker. So while you're sitting back and sipping your cuppa this week, spare a thought for the Tea pickers and donate a little towards our fundraiser. No matter how small your donation, the impact it can have on the lives of those who call these Tea estates their homes and students who study at TLV (Tea Leaf Vision) is immeasurable.
